Kusasa is the story of a young football team from South Africa and their journey to compete in the world’s largest youth football tournament. From the streets of a slum in Cape Town to the avenues of Sweden, the group embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.

About the director
Shane Vermooten is an alum of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, a program of President Obama’s Young African Leaders initiative, and one of the Mail & Guardian’s “Top 200 Young South Africans.” He has filmed in 21 countries. As a director, he has won international awards, including an Impact Docs Award of Excellence. He has also received Silver and Craft Loeries. Vermooten’s film Freedom Road won best narrative short at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles and was nominated at the Black Reel Awards for outstanding foreign film. His debut feature film, Bypass, was theatrically released and received global distribution.
