Gala Screenings
Nickel Boys
A bright, striving Black teenager navigating the terrors of Jim Crow South makes a split-decision that recasts the course of his life. On the cusp of college, he’s instead sentenced to time at a notorious reformatory. There he encounters a kindred spirit, forming an alliance, but one with incalculable consequences. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Colson Whitehead, this astonishingly beautiful and visionary work of cinematic poetry offers us nothing less than a new way of seeing. An Orion Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios release.
Director and writer RaMell Ross will be presented with the Breakthrough Director Award. A Q&A with Ross and actor Ethan Herisse immediately follows the screening.
